Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance
System (BRFSS) Regional Data Summary, 1998
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services conducts ongoing surveillance
with the assistance of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This
summary presents answers to survey questions related to health behaviors, screening,
quality of life, mental health, impairment, and access to health care and insurance
in Missouri.

African Americans in the city of St. Louis, Kansas City,
and the Bootheel region of Missouri, 1990 - 1996
Similar to the study listed above, this report focuses on information gathered
on risk factors between 1990 and 1996.

The trends in Missouri regarding the prevalence of chronic diseases are reviewed

Overall nutrition status trends of low-income children aged 0-4 years is focused
on in this Missouri report on children participating in publicly-funded health
and nutrition programs such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for

professionals in program planning.

this 1998 article is based on the previous studies mentioned above using Missouri's
Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data.
Racial/ethnic differences
in the prevalence of modifiable cardiovascular
disease risk factors for three regions of Missouri, 1996
Risk factors focused on in this Missouri study include smoking, physical inactivity,
obesity, hypertension and unmonitored cholesterol. Because there is little
information on cardiovascular disease risk factors among African Americans,
communities with a high percentage of African Americans were selected for this
Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services study. Results published
in 2000.

Missouri: Ten year trends and predictions for year 2000
This is a draft version of an article published by Elsevier Science in The
American Journal of Preventive Medicine in 1997. Discussed are ways to help
relieve the burden of chronic disease by modification of lifestyle risk factors,
in particular smoking, physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and obesity.
